Introduction:

The Directorate of Employment and Training (DGE&T), Ministry of Labour and Employment, launched the Women Vocational training programme in 1977 aimed at exclusively at women vocational training at regional level all over the country.

At present there are altogether 11 Vocational Training Institutes – a National Vocational Training Institute for Women (NVTI) at Noida ,an Apex Institute and 10 Regional Vocational Training Institute (RVTI) for women at Mumbai, Bangalore,Trivandrum, Hissar,Kolkatta,Tura Indore, Allahabad,Vadodara,Jaipur.

These Institute aim at Vocational training and Development in different skills areas through a well planned system, comprising of training and curriculum Development. To achieve this Institutes have been/ are being provided with requisite infrastructure for imparting skill training for women.

Objectives of the Institutes are:-

  • Identification of vocational skill training areas.
  • Organization of skill training programmes for women.
  • Designing and updating of skill training curricula.
  • Placement and follow-up services.
  • Organization of training programmes for trainers of vocational training institutes and (women) workers from the industry.
  • Sensitizing social environment through publicity campaigns.
  • Maintaining industry- institute linkages.


THE INSTITUTE: RVTI FOR WOMEN, TURA : The institute was established in 1987 initially with the Secreterial Practice Trade have presently 6 running Basic courses and 1 advance course It is situated at Dakopgre near T.V.Tower which is 8km from the main market and can be reached by local bus, taxi and auto. The institute aim at catering the vocational need of women in the North eastern region covers a land area of about 2.40 acres which includes the Institute building, the 50 bedded Girls Cum Guest House building and staff quarters. The institute have been/ is being provided with requisite up-to-date technology, machines and infra structure to meet the dynamic changing need of vocational training.

Working hours:

Institute works for 5 days in a week i.e. Monday to Friday. Institute remains closed on every Saturday and Sunday. There are no vacation holidays; but institute will remain closed on central government declared holidays. List of holidays are declared on the notice board.

How to reach RVTI Tura:

RVTI(W) is located in Tura, the district headquarters of West Garo Hills District of Megahlaya. Nearest railway and air head is Guwahati , the capital city of Assam. The distance between Guwahati and Tura is approximately 220 Kms. Bus and Sumo services are available from Guwahati to Tura. Timings are as follows:

Bus Services: Morning - 7:00 AM, Night - 8:30 PM

Sumo Services: Morning - 6:30 AM, Afternoon - 2:00 PM

The distance of RVTI campus from Tura Bazar (Bus stand) is approximately 8 kms. Auto and city bus services can be availed to reach the campus.
